Family Evening At Lake Hume

On Thursday the 9th of February 1st Wodonga Scout Group had their family function at Ebden reserve on Lake Hume. This was in lieu of a Christmas function (as too many were too busy over that period), it was decided to have the opening night of 2012 as a family function at Lake Hume.On Thursday the 9th of February we had our family function at Ebden reserve on Lake Hume. Parents and committee members had a chance to chat and catch up whilst the Scouts, Cubs and Joeys had fun splashing and swimming down in the water.

Soon the BBQ's were fired up and cooking got underway. Even some of the Cubs helped out with the cooking.

The master chefs put their culinary skills on full display.

 After a swim the Scouts and Cubs had a bit of a relax whist the BBQ was cooked.

After the BBQ the parents chatted whilst the Cubs and Scouts explored or played a game of Cricket.

 

A fun time was had by all and proved to be an enjoyable and relaxed start to what will be another busy year for the Venturers, Scouts, Cubs and Joeys.

Fundraising 4th Feb 2012

On the first Saturday in February 2012 it was once again our turn to hold the BBQ at Wodonga's Bunnings Warehouse (of which we are grateful to them).

Staffed by members of the committee, the Group Leader and three senior Scouts (soon the be Venturers) a successful day was had.

We were even able to get photographic evidence of our committee President at work (in the apron cooking the sausages). 

The Scouts and committee members greeted the hungry public with a smile. 

The Scouts had a great time and helped earn valuable funds towards their future activities this year, although it would also appear someone was eating some of the profits!

Scouts In Head Of The Mitta Mitta

The weekend of the 3rd and 4th of December 2011 saw the return of the district Scouting camp the Head of the Mitta Mitta.  This event had been cancelled for many years dur to the severe ten year drought in our region and due to low water levels it was deemed unsafe to do so, however 2010 and into 2011 saw the return of the drought breaking rains to the region and so the event was revived.

The Head of the Mitta Mitta event is a water based camp for scouts where they undertake activities with rafts and canoes and in the past small yachts as well.  Alas, it was discovered in the lead up to this event that our yachts had fallen into disrepair after some modifications made to them back in the 1980's, which long term has caused them to rot their hulls out beyond economical repair.
Despite this set back the scouts from all around the district had a great deal of fun participating in the traditions and events that many of their forebears had participated in with equal enthusiasm and vigour.

They then had to construct two canoes together like an outrigger and navigate the same course.

A great weekend was had by all.
Update:  All the hard work paid off for our scouts when they won the trophy for 2011-12:

Scouts Camp Without Tents

As a further part of their bush craft development the scouts in November undertook a camping exercise out at Eldorado where they were not allowed to camp in a tent.  They had to construct their accommodation as a lean -too and to prepare and cook their own meals.

A great time was had by all.

Senior Scouts Build A Tower

In early November the senior scouts constructed a 3 metre tall tower as part of their badge work toward linking up to become Venturers next year.  They followed their plan and produced a stable and well constructed tower that lasted the required three days without a problem.
