Cubs and Joeys Halloween Party 27/10/11

 On the Thursday night before Halloween the Cubs and Joeys had a combined Halloween Party.  The costumes were fantastic.

Many Games were played, Pumpkins and special food was made and then a feast of party food was consumed at the end of the night.

JOTA/JOTI 2011

On the weekend of October 15 and 16 the 1st Wodonga Scout Group hosted the district groups for the annual JOTA (Jamboree over the air)/ JOTI (Jamboree over the internet).  The tents were set up out the back and then at 2pm the opening parade was held.




The Scouts, Cubs and Joeys were sorted out into groups and sent off to the activities:


 These included the JOTI.  Many interesting people from many different countries were talked to.

 The Joeys were given  extra help to get started

Whilst the BBQ evening meal was cooking, the teams faced off in the tug of war challenge


After the BBQ, songs were sung around the camp fire. 

They all enjoyed a movie in the Scout Hall, they got to view the stars through a telescope and then it was off to bed.  The next morning a hearty breakfast of pan cakes and sausages were consumed, the camp was packed up and the tired Scouts and Cubs returned to their homes.

Cohen Shield 2011

Late in term three some of our Scouts for the first time in a long time got to test out the field craft skills down at Eldorado when they participated in the Cohen Shield.  All had a great time and they came away with the bronze award.

Scout Bike Hike

In term three some of the Scouts undertook a bike hike from the Scout Hall, via the Lake Hume Resort, then out over the Bethanga bridge to the township of Bethanga.

 



 
 

Cubs Aim For Space Badge

 
In term 3 the Cubs were working towards their Space Badge level one.  They started off with a night of observations.

They got to see the International Space Station fly over from the South South East to the East for 3 minutes. Using the NASA Human Space Flight site to find when it was flying over.

They then were given a talk about the Milky Way and what to expect when looking for stars.They then went out and using pin hole planetariums found many of the constellations up that night:

They were also fortunate to have a visiting lecturer who set up his telescope and they were able to view Saturn, the Moon, and even distant galaxies. They also talked about how to find the Southern Cross in the sky and the two methods of finding South by using the Southern Cross.

As another part of working towards the space badge the Cubs and invited Scouts got to go to Albury's Laser Tag where much fun was had.

In term three our Scouts had a night over in Albury doing indoor rock climbing.





Cubs and Joeys Visit The Wodonga Police Station

In September the Cubs and Joeys visited the Wodonga Police station:
