Kub Kars 2012

On Sunday the 24th June at Yackandandah it was time once again for the annual Kub Kars event.  Cubs from all around the district turned up to try their luck with the variety of designs that all started out as a simple block of pine, four nails and four wheels supplied in the kit.
Our cubs had their cars weighed..
..and numbered...
..as they entered this years event.
 The trophies up for grabs
There were all sorts of desgins

Waiting for the event to begin
Finally things got under way with the explanation of how the races will be conducted

Away they go with the first race of the day...
 Our team watch on together
The Kar's were set once on each lane ( the eventual winner is the green car with the lights)
Groups of four were called up and waited for their turn to race
Ours is the yellow car that has just been put up
 A nice close start..
Our next car waiting for the next race
Ours was the silver one with the large spoiler
A quick start by some of the Kars
Our final kar is the orange carrot on the right
It got off to a flying start this time
 Our Cubs with their Kars
Alas, once again we didn't have a kar that made it through to the second round despite a stronger showing this year. So it's back to the drawing board again for next year.
 The finalists
The eventual winner (by a long way)
A fun day was had by all.

Joey's Special Investment

On the second last week of term 2, the 1st Wodonga Joey group invested their newest member.  Whilst all investments are special, this one was a little more so because the young Joey was presented his District Badge by one of his grand fathers (who was a Queens Scout and former Group leader of the 2nd Wodonga Scouts and the current District Treasurer) and his scarf by his other grandfather (who was also a Queens Scout and former Group and Cub Leader of the 1st Wodonga Scout Group).
Reciting the Joey Promise:

Current 1st Wodonga Group Leader "Skip" presents the scouts badge.
Presented the District Badge by his Grandfather and District Treasurer.
"Skip" presents his 1st Wodonga badge
Presented his scarf and woggle by his other Grandfather and former 1st Wodonga Group Leader.
Welcomed to the Joey troop with the traditional handshake.
A celebratory hug with his Dad(who was also a former Queens Scout).
